Watch for child pedestrians: Safe Kids Canada

September 7, 2010

As children head back to school, Safe Kids Canada is reminding parents and drivers to ensure kids can walk local roads safely. Drivers must slow down in residential areas and parents need to show children safe pedestrian practices, Safe Kids says. They note that there is an 80% chance of a child dying if hit by a vehicle going 50 km/h but that plunges to 5% if hit at 30 km/h.

Safe Kids Canada offers a number of tips through its Walk This Way program. See the full news release, in English or French. And visit the website at www.safekidscanada.ca to read more on pedestrian safety and other child injury issues.
